It is built of brick and fine old tiles. Smugglers used this Inn extensively and it was the Inn that was associated with a famous mail coach robbery which took place at the beginning of Wall Hill on June the 27th 1801. The thieves, led by a certain Mr Beatson, took with them between 4,000 to 5,000 pounds, leaving behind about 9,500 pounds worth of drafts and bills.
